The controversial contemporary artist Jeff Koons is the subject of a lecture by Dr. Scott Rothkopf, Deputy Director for Programs and Nancy and Steve Crown Family Chief Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Bruce Museum.

Koons is widely regarded as one of the most influential, pioneering, and popular artists of the postwar era. His work focuses on the boundary between fine art and mass culture. Dr. Rothkopf curated the artist’s first retrospective exhibition, which premiered at the Whitney Museum in New York before travelling to the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Guggenheim in Bilbao.

The Bruce Museum lecture, “The Making of Jeff Koons: A Retrospective,” is part of the Bob and Pam Goergen Lectures. The talk begins at 7:30 p.m.; doors open for a reception and refreshments at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for Bruce Museum members, $10 non-members. To register, visit brucemuseum.eventbrite.com.
