Abilis is ready to celebrate Turkey Day with some help from the Silver Shield Association.
“For the past thirty years, we have had a tradition of delivering Thanksgiving baskets to widows and widowers of retired Greenwich Police Officers,” said Sergeant Timothy Hilderbrand of the Greenwich Police Department and a member of the Silver Shield Association. “Over the last 7 years, we have expanded that to include other community groups like Abilis who have been identified as people would benefit from the baskets,”
The Silver Shield Association dropped off two baskets full of Thanksgiving essentials Tuesday afternoon for Abilis’ celebration.
“It is very important especially because we have our annual Thanksgiving dinner for people who don’t have families,” said Amy Montimurro, Director of Adult Services at Abilis. “So this donation will contribute to the dinner that happens on Thanksgiving Day.
“All of us are extremely thankful and grateful for working in a community where we have so much support,” added Sgt. Hilderbrand. “It is important for us to pay it forward and give back to the community that does so much for us.”
