Eleanor Mahoney Lawrence died on Oct. 30 in Florida.

Born in Greenwich to the late Mary and John Maher Mahoney, Eleanor attended St. Catherine’s Grammar School and St. Mary High School, and graduated from Mount St. Vincent’s in New York. She then attended Endicott Junior College in Beverly, Mass.

She was employed by American Cyanamid in Stamford, where she met her first husband, the late Joseph Csapilla. Later she lived in New York City and Long Beach, N.Y., with her husband Tony Lawrence, who predeceased her. Eleanor was also employed by Shearson-Lehman Brothers and Prudential Securities.

She led an active life including her work, tennis and travel. But most important in her life were her friends, who knew her to be fun-loving and always the center of a good time.

They all can remember events that would not have been the same without “Mahoney” being involved. Her dear childhood friends Nancy and Carol are deeply saddened to know that they can no longer form the “Trio of Laughter” that was theirs alone wherever they were. And they can no longer talk for hours, helping one another get through the ups and downs of life. Another good friend, Bridget, remembers her crazy travel adventures with Eleanor.

Eleanor is survived by her brother, Dan; she was predeceased by her siblings John, Betty Jane, and Matthew. She also leaves stepchildren and step-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are by Leo P. Gallagher and Sons of Greenwich.

Donations may be made in Eleanor’s name to the Arthritis Foundation.
