The Department of Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that pickleball will be returning this winter at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center.

Pickleball is a cross between tennis, ping pong and badminton and is the fastest growing racquet sport. Registration is now open for the instructional clinic and play dates during the winter season.

Registration opens online Nov. 12. Only Greenwich residents may register online. To register online, visit Greenwichct/webtrac and select “Activity Registration.”

Mail-in registration begins Nov. 16. Mail-in registration should not be postmarked earlier than Nov. 16. In-person registration begins Nov. 30. Registration remains open until the program is filled. Space is limited and registration is first come, first serve. Residents must provide proof of residency if not yet provided this year.

The adult pickleball program offers players a selection of up to three days per week at a multi-day discounted rate. Seniors will receive an additional discount with their senior card. Three regulation sized courts at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center gymnasium will be available for players on Saturdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The season runs from Jan. 2, 2016 until March 22.

In addition to the regular play dates, a new instructional clinic for adults is being offered on Saturdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. This is the only instructional program offered for pickleball. Instruction will focus on all the fundamentals of the game, review of the rules and implementation in games.

Those that progress quickly will receive more intermediate instruction and will be grouped accordingly.

Registration forms are available at the Recreation Office located at Town Hall, at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center and online at Greenwichct.org. Click on Parks and Recreation and then youth programs or adult programs under Recreation.
