Katherine (Kay) DiSapio Mills died peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 29. She was 97 years old.

She was born on Dec. 26, 1917 to Angelo and Francesca DiSapio, and was a lifelong Greenwich resident. Kay was a loving, kind and compassionate woman who had a love of life, a fondness for adventure and was always on the go. She loved to travel, bowl, attend the theater, play bingo and cards, do crafts, shop, and volunteer.

She spent hours volunteering for many organizations, including the Nathaniel Witherell Gift Shop and the Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop. She also enjoyed having lunches and dinners out with friends. In addition, she belonged to The Greenwich Women’s Club and was a communicant at Saint Roch’s Church.

She was a beautician who owned her own shop and later worked in several other salons.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Mills, her brother Charles DiSapio, her sister Josephine Cascio, her sisters-in-law Shirley DiSapio and Helen DiSapio, and her brothers-in law Joseph Caputo and Anthony Cascio.

She is survived by her sister Mary Caputo, her brother Alfred DiSapio, and her nieces and nephews Charies DiSapio (Ginny), Karen Haines (Greg), Sandra Burns, Carl Cascio, Chuck Cascio (Bonnie) Joey Cascio, Joseph Caputo, Linda Caputo, Diane Warzoha (Dan), Denise Grabarz (Michael), Laura DiBella (Albert) and Brenda Hansen (Bobby), as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and newphews.

She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Roberta Jaffer, and by step-grandchildren Martin and Sarah Jaffer.

Nothing was more important to Kay than her family. She always made time for her family and planned special outings and events with each one. She was very generous and considered others first until the end of her life.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Roch’s Church, 10 Saint Roch Ave., on Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank the staff at Parsonage Cottage, Nathaniel Witherell and Greenwich Hospital for their amazing care of Katherine. They especially want to recognize Dr. Lodato of Greenwich Hospital for her support to Kay and her family.
