The Lions Clubs of Greenwich and Old Greenwich are working to provide preschoolers at Children’s Day School with free eye screenings before they head to Kindergarten.

“If you can’t see well and you don’t have all the tools you need to be a kindergartener, you will fall into the gap in achievement,” said Lions Club Secretary Alan Gunzburg.

The Greenwich Lions Club owns a few of these machines. The kids will look into the device and then light will refract within seconds.

“It will take a picture of the eye and it will send a wireless print out to the printer. It will tell six different eye diseases,” said Gunzburg.

These diseases include near and far sightedness, astigmatisms, and lazy eye.

“We can fix all those and we can get them glasses. We can help them be just as strong as their friends in class,” said Gunzburg.

The Lions Club is looking to work with the public school to screen every kindergartner, but the organization needs your help. If you would like to volunteer at the eye screenings, contact Alan Gunzburg at 24fado@optonline.net.
