Greenwich encompasses a vast and diverse landscape, changing from the equestrian back country bordering Bedford, New York, southeasterly towards the shores of Long Island Sound. Along the coastal portion between the neighborhoods of Cos Cob and Old Greenwich, you’ll find the Riverside section of town. We’ve had listings in this gorgeous community since expanding into Greenwich in 2013, but with our recent acquisition of Shore & Country Properties we also gained our own home here.

There’s everything to love about Riverside. What was once a sleepy fishing village is now a thriving waterfront suburb, playing host to nuanced housing stock ranging in size from modest to massive. It has its very own station on Metro North’s New Haven line, affording an easy commute into New York City and the solace of returning to the serenity of salt air every night. The exclusive Riverside Yacht Club, the second oldest in Connecticut, dates to 1888, adding a breeze of grandeur that defines the scenic harbor landscape whether one ever enters it or not. A more discrete landmark—it’s on the national register—is the Riverside Avenue Bridge, the last surviving cast iron truss in the state.

Riverside-AWhile Riverside lacks a formal Main Street, there’s still convenient shopping and plentiful dining options, from pizza delivery an outpost of NYC’s Valbella. J house, the sleek boutique hotel that emerged from an old Howard Johnson’s on East Putnam Avenue in 2012, boasts an innovative New American eatery, spotlighting locavore dishes prepared in an open kitchen and served in a flowing indoor-outdoor space. And for what it doesn’t have, the world-class shopping of Greenwich Avenue is minutes away.

Residents of Riverside can enjoy lifestyles active or quiet, social or secluded. Notable names who call it home include Katie Lee Gifford, Olympic gold medalist Dorothy Hamill and New York Ranger Martin St. Louis.
