Joseph J. Turek, Jr. died peacefully on Oct. 1 at Stamford Hospital with his two loving daughters by his side. He was 76 years old.

Joseph (also known as Joe, Buddy, and Turek) grew up in Cos Cob and graduated from Greenwich High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps in 1958 through 1964. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.

Joseph then went on to work with the United States Post Office in Old Greenwich and Riverside from 1961 through his retirement in 2006. He raised his two daughters in Stamford, then moved to Norwalk, and was looking forward to spending his golden years at his recently acquired lake cottage in Trumbull.

After retiring, Joseph enjoyed gardening, collecting coins and baseball cards, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting, and was an excellent marksman. He gave back to his community by donating to various charities and by volunteering at the Norwalk Library.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph J. Turek and Agnes Kroll Turek. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Gromley (and her husband Randy Gromley) of Trumbull and Michele Cookney (and her husband Colin Cookney) of Littleton, Colo.; his two beloved grandchildren, Alicia and Troy of Trumbull; his sisters, Wendy Turek and Tina Deverill (and husband Robert Deverill) of Keene, N.H.; his nieces, Robin Croteau and Reed Graves of Keene; and many other extended family members.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial took place yesterday at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. Interment followed at St. Mary Cemetery.
