“Happy Birthday dear Sid, Happy Birthday to you!”
One Greenwich man celebrated a milestone birthday with a little help from his Y family.
“Oh Sid is a legend here, he really is,” said Bob DeAngelo, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greenwich.
Right before his morning swim Thursday, Sid Fuire celebrated his 95th Birthday.
“What a welcome, thank you!,” said Fuire after members and friends sang Happy Birthday.
“I met Sid in the pool at 5 o’clock every morning for years,” said Annette Bortot, a member of the Greenwich Y since 1991.
“Years and years and years and we have just become really good friends. He is just remarkable at 95-years-old.”

The 95-year-old was also presented with a Lifetime Membership Award.
“This means you get to come here for the next 50 years on us,” said DeAngelo.
“I think swimming was his savior. I think the reason he’s here today is because of the pool and swimming. He has motivated a lot of people and he is an inspiration to all of us.”

“If he can get up to swim and workout at 5am then so can I!”said Bortot.
