The Greenwich Academy field hockey team kept Hopkins School off the scoreboard and came away with the hard-fought 3-0 victory Wednesday afternoon.

“Hopkins played a really strong game, with some great players coming up the middle,” GA head coach Jamie Brower said. “They caught us off-balance on defense a few times. Today’s game highlighted areas we need to improve on moving forward. We are pleased to get the win, but eager to get back to work preparing for Saturday.”

The Gators scored twice in the first half to put the game out of reach. Greenwich Academy got the ball rolling with 20:57 showing on the clock, as Olivia LeSueur took the pass from Kate DeFrino and beat the Hopkins goalie for the 1-0 lead.

With time winding down in the first half, Karina Schulze added to the lead, as she gained possession of the ball from Whitney Balanoff with 1:44 to play in the half and found the back of the net.

The Gators rounded out the scoring with 20:05 to play in the game, as Caroline Keller, got the pass from Tati Viola and Balanoff and netted the team’s third goal of the net.

GA finished the contest with 12 shots on net and goalie Maggie Reville ended the game with three saves in the winning effort.

Greenwich Academy will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Hotchkiss School for a game starting at 4.
