Although the Greenwich Academy field hockey team played a quick Choate Rosemary Hall team Monday afternoon, the Gators were able to pull away in the second half, en route to a 7-1 victory.

With 24:26 to play in the first half, Olivia LeSueur got the pass from Burke and found the back of the net. At the nine-minute mark, the Gators struck again, as Kate DeFrino capitalized on a penalty stroke.

With time expired in the first half, Greenwich Academy was able to score its third goal. On a corner opportunity, Alexa Murray got the ball from DeFrino and fired the shot past the Choate goalie.

It was in the second half where the Gators put the game out of reach, scoring four times. Only 1:12 gone by in the half, Greenwich Academy’s Karina Schulze took the pass from Whitney Balanoff and gave GA the 4-0 lead.

After Choate was able to put the ball in the back of the cage, courtesy of a goal from Olivia Mi with 27:44 to play, Greenwich Academy answered six minutes later. DeFrino found LeSueur, who beat the Choate goalie for the 5-1 advantage.

With 12:52 left in the contest, Kraus picked up Balanoff’s second assist of the game and found her name on the scoresheet. Rounding out the scoring was Faye Tapsall, who scored off the Murray assist with 9:21 to play in the contest.

The Gators will be back in action Wednesday when they host Hopkins School at 3:15 p.m.
