Democrats representing all levels of government celebrated the kickoff of the Greenwich Democrats 2015 Campaign on Sunday afternoon at the annual picnic.

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D- Conn.) and Congressman Jim Himes (D-4th) spoke to a crown filled with local democrats such as Board of Education members, a first selectman candidate, and the State Comptroller.

“Our work is far from over. This November is a test run for which we are electing a president next November,” said Himes.

Blumenthal spoke about the military, saying “there needs to be more support, outreach, and research to deal more effectively with post traumatic stress disorder.”

His thoughts on gun rights earned him a huge round of applause at the picnic.

“I’m going to keep fighting against gun violence, for sensible measures, for backgrounds checks with my colleague Chris Murphy,” said Blumenthal.

Local democrat Selectman Drew Marzullo said the kickoff picnic is a way to promote democratic principles in Greenwich.

“It’s important that people not just inside the party, but outside the party, have an opportunity to meet senators and congressmen,” said Marzullo.

Elections will be held on Tuesday, November 3 this year.
