Editorial: Making Moving to Greenwich Less Overwhelming

Moving to a new community can be over whelming. It can be difficult leave friends and loved ones and find yourself in a place where you know no-one.  Greenwich would like to welcome you with open arms and help you meet people and learn all that the community has to offer. There are several ways this can happen. One is to join one of our many fine places of worship. Greenwich offers something for everyone no matter what your religious preference. Another is the Junior League (jlgreenwich.org), a national organization with branches through the country, including Greenwich. One organization that is uniquely Greenwich, because it is all about Greenwich, is the Greenwich Newcomer’s Club.

The Greenwich Newcomers Club has been welcoming residents to our community for more than 50 years. Regardless of what your interest is; sports, dining, reading or socializing the club has been providing a forum to meet new people and develop friendship that help make the transition to a new community less difficult.

The club has numerous events throughout the year; including a book club, recipe group and Coffee Morning once a month which is designed to new members learn more about the community from older members. No longer is it geared towards just women. Increasingly there are family and men events. Their Lobster Fest is coming up on Sunday, September 27th at Todd’s Point. There will be a pumpkin carving contest in October and Holiday Party in December.  There is also a regular Guys Night Out, often held at a local restaurant so that they too can learn about the community and can share with others the challenges of moving to a new community.

It is a club and like most clubs in town there is a membership fee. Fortunately, with the Greenwich New Comers is not cost prohibitive. Membership is $60.00 per year and includes access to all of their activities and events throughout the year. For more information please visit: Greenwichnewcomersclub.wildapricot.org.
