Whenever anybody traveled around the athletic facilities at Convent of the Sacred Heart, there was a good chance you would see Logan Condon roaming the sidelines.

Whether he was on the baseline at a basketball game, behind the backstop at a softball contest, watching the CSH tracksters turn a corner, working the scoreboard at a lacrosse game or even coaching his soccer team to an FAA title, it was obvious that Condon was a popular individual in the athletic department.

However, with the start of the new school year comes change, and Condon has become the new big man on campus when it comes to athletics—not at Sacred Heart, but at Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury, where he has been named the new athletic director.

“I am very honored and excited to be considered for the opportunity,” Condon said. “Chase is a place where I did my internship six years ago and I always have held the school in high regard. It’s a great community. Coming from another great community, Sacred Heart, back to Chase is like going full circle. It’s quite an honor.”

Condon was contacted by several organizations, just to see if he was interested. Once Chase reached out to Condon about the athletic director position, he visited the school, met everybody.

“I was lucky enough that my references checked out and they took me in,” joked Condon. “I was so honored when they offered me the position here. I hope to bring my enthusiasm for sports and education for youth. Athletics is such an important part of education and I strongly believe that it’s just as important as the normal classes in a classroom. It’s a part of education that brings out a different side of the students that you don’t necessarily see, between the attributes of teamwork, determination, how to win and how to lose.”

Condon became the assistant athletic director to Kelly Stone back in 2010 and took over the Sacred Heart soccer team in 2013.

“Sacred Heart was a great place and a great community,” Condon said. “The faculty, the students and the administration were all very supportive and all willing to help me out and push me further. They let me learn more and experience more. I had a great boss in Kelly Stone, who really holds everything she does to a high standard. It was great to learn from somebody that really runs a tight ship, and also does it in a very caring manner.”

And talking about leaving on a high note: Two years into his head coaching job for the soccer program, Condon helped bring the Fairchester Athletic Association championship back to Sacred Heart, as the Tigers upended rivals Greenwich Academy, 3-2, in overtime.

“I am going to really miss the soccer program,” Condon said. “Besides the people at the school, the experience of being with that soccer team is something that I am going to really miss. I was able to really connect and find a place to establish some sort of legacy of Sacred Heart soccer being a successful program.

“They should continue to be successful because there’s a lot of young talent throughout the school that will carry it along,” added Condon. “The team is also in really good hands and I am excited to see that program continue to grow.”

With the daily duties of athletic director for Chase Collegiate resting on his shoulders, the ability to also coach quite the challenge. To focus solely on getting the school up to his high athletic standards, Condon won’t be coaching this school year. And that will be a big adjustment for the new AD.

“I am going to miss coaching big time,” Condon said. “I’ve already been on the field talking with the coaches. They are very supportive of me and I am supportive of them. I’m letting them do what they need to do, because I believe they are going to be able to lead these young adults to success.”
