The final preparations are underway for the September 11th Memorial being built at Cos Cob Park.

“We are doing the implementation of the planting of the 9/11 Memorial,” said Roberto Fernandez of Roberto Fernandez Landscaping.

Doyle Herman Design Associates created the landscape layout for the memorial. Senior Landscape Architect Cheryl Brown says this design has been in the works for about three years.

“What we wanted to do was create a space that would somewhat enclose people from behind and focus their view out towards the memorial and the water. It’s a gorgeous view out there. It can be a reflective place,” said Brown.

Roberto Fernandez Landscaping is now making that design come to life, and this is something the company says it’s honored to be a part of.

“Our men working in my company are very proud of it. We have a few veterans of the marines and the army. They are very emotional and very proud to be part of this project,” said Fernandez.

“We really wanted to do this. It was really an important thing to do. The town was in need of a very accessible memorial. When we were asked to do this, we just said yes,” said Brown.

The memorial will officially open with a ribbon cutting on September 11 at 9 a.m. at Cos Cob Park.
