Police motorcycle divisions from Greenwich, Trumbull, Hamden, Fairfield, Newington, Danbury, and even Portland, Maine have just left for the 14th annual America’s 9/11 Ride.

“We ride every year, two weekends before Labor Day. The purpose is to never forget,a nd to pay homage to the first responders,” said founder Ted Sjurseth.

This group will pick up more bikers at the Tappazee Bridge, and in New Jersey, and Allentown, PA, before arriving in Somerset, PA to meet about 700 more bikers.

“We will go from Flight 93, police escort of with 136 motors, to Washington D.C., the Pentagon. On Saturday morning, we will depart fro the Pentagon and go to New York, World Trade Center. Sunday morning, we will ride form the hotel to Ground Zero for speeches and a tour of the museum,” said Sjurseth.

“It’s sad in some spots when you go tot he crash sites and see all the names of the people, and seeing the little toys of the children that were killed,” said Trumbull Police Traffic Officer Scott Thompson.

America’s 9/11 Ride has raised over $300,000 in scholarships for children of first responders.

“It’s a good ride, it’s a good cause, and everyone gets together and has a good time,” said Thompson.

“We continue to remember and never forget,” said Sjurseth.
