The Greenwich Police Department announced on Friday that it has completed the investigation into the boating tragedy that killed 16-year-old Emily Fedorko last year.
According to the Greenwich Police Department, Elizabeth Lewis, 17, was cited with violation of boating regulations required when waterskiing and for rules preventing collision.
On July 30, Lewis was issued an infraction complaint ticket that came with a fine of $150.
“There is not enough room in a press release to express the deep sympathy the investigators feel for the family of Emily Fedorko and for her friends who were present that day,” said Greenwich Police Department’s Lt. Kraig Gray in a prepared press release. “The entire Greenwich Police Department extends our condolences. This official act concludes the investigation into the August 6, 2014 boating accident, and it is our hope that it will bring some closure to the families involved.”
Although the events occurred last year, the GPD know that this latest development could possibly cause an emotional response.
“If anybody is struggling with this event, please reach out to a professional counselor,” said Gray.
According to the press release, the investigators from the Marine Section, Detective Division, as well as marine accident experts at the Connecticut Department of Energy have invested hundreds of hours determining the facts surrounding the boating accident.
“Officers have consulted with members of each of the families directly involved and with other maritime experts,” said Gray in the press release. “Over the last year, our investigators have considered at length what is the most appropriate outcome from a law enforcement perspective with regard to this tragic event.”
