The oldest church in Greenwich has been celebrating its 350th birthday throughout the year. On July 19, the First Congregational Church of Greenwich continued its historic celebration with its 350th Founder’s Day. In honor of this special occasion, the congregation traveled back in time for an “Olde Tyme” worship service followed by a lobster roll lunch on the front lawn.

The day began with a service that included a reading of the official Greenwich Founder’s Day Proclamation by First Selectman Peter Tesei and a special presentation by Congressman Jim Himes. Immediately following the service, there was a lobster roll lunch, as well as colonial style games for the children, and a display of historical items.

The church’s 350th anniversary closely ties in with the Town of Greenwich’s 375th anniversary, also taking place this year.

Church officials said there are upcoming events in the fall, including a Fall Open House, the Brenda Stiers Memorial Speaker Series, and a family Halloween event.
