Communication is more than just talking and listening – especially when it concerns people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.  Caregivers in the community are invited to join Tania Paparazzo, LMSW, Southwest Regional Director of the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, for a presentation on “Effective Communication Strategies” on Wednesday, July 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at River House Adult Day Center, 125 River Road Extension, Cos Cob.

Participants will explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s. They will learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia. Strategies will be identified that help the caregiver communicate at each stage of the disease.

The educational program is free of charge and open to non-professional caregivers in the community. Lunch will be provided and respite is available with prior arrangements to participants who are caring for someone during the day. Space is limited and registration is required. contact Lynn Treffeisen at 203-622-0079 for more information or to register.
