This holiday weekend, the Parks and Recreations Department will host two firework displays on Friday, July 3 at two different locations. There is a rain date of Sunday, July 5.

Greenwich Point Park

Greenwich Point Park will begin their fireworks show at approximately 9:30 p.m. and early arrival is recommended as parking spaces are limited. A beach pass and parking permit will also be required like any other day of the year.

Greenwich Point will be closed to vehicular traffic at 8:30 p.m., even if the parking capacity has yet to be reached.

Tailgating will not be allowed in Greenwich Point’s parking lots during or after the display. Cooking is only allowed in regularly designated picnic areas and at town-owned grills. Dogs are not allowed in the park. Glassware is not permitted on or within 200 feet of the beach and swimming will not be allowed after sunset.

Spectators are urged to carpool, bring a flashlight and plan ahead for the event. The fireworks display will be fired from the corner of Greenwich Point (Bluff Point), well beyond the South Concession Stand where a DJ will be stationed for entertainment. The Point will be closed immediately following the conclusion of the fireworks.

A limited area of the Point will be restricted from public use on the day of the fireworks. People interested in walking the Point on the day of the show will need to take a detour around the Bluff Point Area of the Park, and this detour will take them up to Founder’s Rock.

Greenwich Emergency Medical Services will assist in safety measures being taken to provide expert medical coverage, a comfortable environment, and safe and efficient exit from Greenwich Point after the fireworks.

Additionally, a managed parking and traffic flow plan will be in place along with portable lighting at

strategic locations around Greenwich Point.

Binney Park

The Binney Park fireworks show will start at approximately 9:10 p.m. However, the Sound Beach Community Band will begin a performance at the park at 7:30 p.m. on the Showmobile in the area of Binney Park near the flagpole by Sound Beach Avenue.

Wesskum Wood Road will be closed to traffic by Police in the early evening. Handicapped parking will be available on Binney Park Drive near the tennis courts. Police will be available to assist with traffic and pedestrians.

Grills, cooking and open fires will be prohibited in Binney Park.

Items not allowed at either location include open flame candles, sparklers, Chinese Fire Lanterns, or any other kind of fireworks.
