For the fifth year, hundred of young athletes laced up their running shoes for the Navigators KIC IT Kids Triathlon.

“It is just a lot of fun. It is great to see kids out here enjoying themselves, exercising but also supporting Kids in Crisis,
said Shari Shapiro, Executive Director of Cos Cob based Kids in Crisis. “It is a friendly competition so they are in it to win it for themselves and for the children we serve.”
Saturday morning, young athletes ages 6-13 swam, biked and ran the course at Cove Beach to raise funds for Kids in Crisis. The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Race Weekend benefits Kids in Crisis, Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock crisis counseling center and emergency shelter for children ages newborn to 17.
“It is absolutely beautiful to see the community come together to support the kids and to support our mission,” said Alon Marom, Director of Development, Corporate & Community Giving for Kids in Crisis
“It’s important not only to raise funds but also raise awareness about the services that we provide in Connecticut,” added Shapiro.
The Kids Triathlon is part of the Navigators Stamford KIC IT Race Weekend. Sunday morning, individuals and relay teems will take on either an Olympic or Sprint triathlon.

“It great to see kids out here doing something good for the community and doing something good for themselves,” said Marom

“I like the run the best. You get to cheer on people who are still doing the bike part and running is my favorite,” said 11-year-old Kids Triathlon participant Lachlan Darke.

“Kids really want to make a difference in their community and that has been such a change over the years. Kids are really getting involved and giving back,” said Shapiro.
“I think it is important to give back,” said 11-year-old Kids Triathlon participant Tristan Lee. “It’s really cool to have kids team up and help other kids.”
The Race Weekend will conclude with a free Family Festival at Mill River Park Sunday morning at 9am. For more information about Kids in Crisis, visit www.kidsincrisis.org.
