KICITLogoHundreds of athletes will take the streets of Stamford this weekend for the Navigators Stamford KIC IT Race Weekend to benefit Cos Cob-based Kids in Crisis.

Thousands are expected to attend, with athletes swimming, biking, and running the course, as spectators, sponsors and volunteers cheer along the sidelines.

On Saturday, the Navigators KIC IT Kids Triathlon will play host to young athletes ages six- to 13-years-old at Cove Beach.

The next morning, individuals and relay teams will take to both the streets and shore to take on the challenge of either an Olympic or Sprint triathlon.

Athletes will start with a swim at Cummings Beach, a bike through the backcountry of Stamford, and a run through downtown Stamford; or a 5k or 10k , starting at Mill River Park and following the triathlon’s respective run courses as standalone road races with their very own start times.

All races conclude in Mill River Park.

The general public is invited to attend the free Family Festival in Mill River Park, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will enjoy with music, refreshments, and entertainment, all while cheering on hundreds of athletes crossing the finish line.

The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Triathlon raises funds for Kids in Crisis, Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock emergency shelter and crisis counseling center. Kids in Crisis provides Fairfield County with 24-hour crisis counseling services and free, emergency shelter care for children of all ages.

“If it were not for all the tremendous support that we get from the athletes, fundraisers, and corporate sponsors, The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Triathlon weekend would not be possible,”said Shari Shapiro, Executive Director of Kids in Crisis. “Kids in Crisis will use all the funds raised this weekend to provide services to children and their families in Connecticut, free of charge.”

The Navigators Stamford KIC IT Triathlon and 5k & 10k and Navigators Stamford KIC IT Kids Triathlon have grown into an outstanding athletic weekend, attracting competitors from across the country, while maintaining a special focus on offering a fun family experience.

The entire weekend benefits Kids in Crisis, Connecticut’s only free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community educational programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises – domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties and more. Since its founding in 1978, Kids in Crisis has helped more than 124,000 Connecticut children and families; last year, more than 6,000 children and families received assistance from the organization.
