The YMCA Greenwich Aquatics water polo program has something to be proud of.

“We are taking 10 teams to Junior Olympics which is a big thing for us. It’s the most we’ve ever taken and we are very excited,” said head coach Ulmis Lordache.

“We had to compete at the Junior Olympic qualifiers and we were able to win our age group and qualify for the tournament,” said 14 U team member Nico Apostolides.

Greenwich Aquatics secured the number one seed in six out of the eight age groups at this qualifying tournament in Reading, Penn.

“We are excited. We are going to work hard to see if we can accomplish our goal which is to do as best as we can,” said Apostolides.

“I’m excited. I’m going to boarding school next year, so this is going to be my last tournament playing with my team,” said 14 U team member Eric Osband.

Greenwich Aquatics also has four athletes playing for national teams.
