Out of over 500 submissions the Bruce Museum has selected
44 portraits to be on display at the annual iCreate Exhibit.
The exhibit will run from June 13 to July 26 and all
submissions were from students in the area. The Bruce Museum
goes through a long process of selecting the top artwork.
Staff and judges brought in the top 125 pieces of work for
further critiques. The remaining 44 pieces are in the running
for three different cash prize awards. Volunteer, Julia
Bunte-Mein, appreciates the experience she has gained from
the exhibit.

“It’s been really great to be involved in the process, just
seeing all the talent and creativity among the young students
in the area. We really encourage young artists to submit their
work because it’s really great to be recognized. A lot of the
students here are going on to have art careers or going on to
art school and it’s great to be able to say that you’ve been
recognized,” said Julia Bunte-Mein.

Artist, Abby Mitchell, didn’t even know her teacher had
submitted her work until she was notified that she was selected
for the exhibit.

“This piece was apart of my AP concentration which was a series
of broken portraits. I started with less breaks in the piece and
I progressed as they got more complex, so this piece was later
in the series. Everything here is so fantastic, it’s so cool to
see all this different work from different high school students,”
said Abby Mitchell.

Top prizes will be announced by the Bruce Museum later this evening.
