The Bruce Museum will showcase the work of area high school students this summer in its sixth annual iCreate art exhibition. From June 13 through July 26, approximately forty artworks will be on display after being selected from more than five hundred submissions gathered from an open call to regional high schools.

Finalists are selected by a jury of professionals, who determine the Museum exhibition after several rounds of voting. This year’s jury includes Stacey Gershon, Collection Manager at the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust, as iCreate will coincide with the Museum’s major spring art exhibition, Walls of Color: The Murals of Hans Hofmann, which explores the work of one of the greatest artists and visual teachers of the 20th century. Every year, iCreate is organized by the Museum’s Youth Committee, Youth@Bruce, as a way for youth volunteers to have a meaningful experience at the Museum and obtain various job skills to enhance their resume.

“High school artists and volunteers have created what is now a very exciting annual exhibition for the Bruce Museum,” said Mary Ann Lendenmann, Volunteer Manager and New Media Developer at the Bruce Museum. “It’s a thrill for these young artists to be recognized, moreover we’re delighted to have their work on display in the Museum’s Bantle Lecture Gallery. Each year we are astounded by the quality and originality in the submissions. The museum community looks forward to this showcase of young talent.”

Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place, as well as honorary mention winners, as selected by the jury. An additional award, the Youth@Bruce Award, will be selected by the Youth@Bruce committee. There will also be a People’s Choice Award announced in late June, decided by public vote online at the Museum’s website, brucemuseum.org and by visitors in person. All participating students are eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

In addition to the approximately forty finalists, iCreate will feature a digital presentation which will include all participating students.

iCreate and Youth @Bruce is generously supported by the Fairfield County Community Foundation and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation.
