Selectman Deny Charter Amendment

The Greenwich Board of Selectman has failed a motion to
allow the Representative Town Meeting to debate a charter
amendment regarding the Board of Education.

The amendment would have increased the size of the school
board from 8 to 10 people.

This increase would have happened over the course of two
elections- the upcoming 2015 election as well as the 2017
election.

The current pi-partisan Board of Ed format has 4 members from
both the democrat and republican party. Board of Ed Chairman
Barbara O’Neill commented publicly saying this format works very well.

First Selectman Peter Tesei motioned to approve this amendment, but
both Selectman Drew Marzullo and John Toner did not second the motion.

This eliminates the possibility for an amendment to be ready for the
2015 election.
