Family Centers of Greenwich has been reaccredited by the
National Association of for the Education of Young Children.

“It’s really the gold standard for early care and education.
Only about eight to 10 percent of centers nationally receive
this accreditation,” said Megan Sweeney.

Megan Sweeney, the Director of Early Care and Education, says
it is a rigorous process to get reaccredited. The NAEYC looks
at health, safety, parent relationships, facilities, and teacher
qualifications.

“We have a pretty rigorous hiring process when it comes to our
teachers. We really strive to hire people who are not just
educated, but that they really have the passion for working
with this age group,” said Kate McCallum, the site manager at
the Arch Street preschool.

Family Centers has four locations and serves about 230 children.

“We have a lot of different programs- we have programs that will
serve at risk children, children who need significant financial
support, but we also serve people working in the community and
need somewhere nice, quality, and safe for their children to go,”
said Sweeney.

It is an all day program that is open from 7:30 to 6:00 Monday
through Friday.

“We have different kinds of activities going on in the classroom-
small group, whole group, one on one instruction. So, there’s a
lot of learning and a lot of fun,” said McCallum.
